He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Henry Beard and Ora Lail Beard; and his siblings, Beatrice Eckerd, Georgia Shell, Willie Mae "Bill" Propst, Rebecca Starnes, Harvey Beard, Boyd Beard, Robert "Bobby" Beard, Jerry Beard, Eddie Beard and Blace "Pluto" Frye.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Rose Beard; his children, Sandra Beard Phelps (Jack) of Hickory, Marsha Barrs, Janeen Rawlings (Mike), Barry M. Beard (Jane) of Sanford and Michael D. Beard (Retha) of Hickory; and his stepchildren, Sandy Thornton, Bonnie Wilkins (David), Jeffrey R. McDermott (Cori) and Christopher Alan. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
