He is survived by: his former wife Margaret Transou Godwin; his children, Matthew Hayes Godwin, Sr. (Marci Sutton Godwin) of Morehead City and Jodie Godwin Crawford (Rick Crawford) of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Sutton West Godwin, Mabel Hayes Godwin, Matthew Hayes Godwin, Jr., Emma Claire Crawford and Caroline Wright Crawford; and his cousins, John Boddie, Gretchen MacNair (Van), Evelyn Kientz (Frank), Mabel Kinney (Tom), Ned Godwin (Elva) and Pitt Godwin (Nora).
