He was predeceased by: his wife Lou Ellen Daughety; his parents, John William Grimes (Bill) and Janie Overman; and his siblings, Eleanor Rose Collier, Mary Della Worthington, Willie Carrol Grimes and Donald Wayne Grimes.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Grimes Dail (Louis) of Farmville, Sandy Grimes Cooper (Gary) of Kenly and Dennis Grimes of Stantonsburg; his grandchildren, Shannon Hodge (Larry) of Kenly, Ashley Landvater (Jeremy) of Swansboro and Kelly Pittman (Patrick) of Richmond, Virginia; his great grandchildren, Jordan, Bristol Hodge, Emily, Sammy, Timmy Landvater, Maggie and Palmer Pittman; and his brothers, Ralph Grimes and Durwood Grimes.
