He was predeceased by: his parents, David Jonathan Kearney and Rilla Butts Kearney; his wife Kay Hardison Kearney; and his sister Eliza Kearney Sykes. He is survived by: his children, Joan Kearney Price (Lee) of Goldsboro, Richard Harold "Rick" Kearney, Jr. (Susan) of Kinston and David Arthur Kearney (Karen) of Pikeville; his siblings, Lila Lorraine Wells of Goldsboro and Larry D. Kearney of Surf City; his grandchildren, Nikki Newlin (Chris), Kelly Jones, Samuel Kearney, Noah Kearney (Caitlin) and Mary Grace Kearney; and his great grandchildren, Katlyn Bradford, Hannah Jones and Sarah Newlin.
