He was predeceased by: his parents, Abraham Stockton and Nancy Burton Stockton; and his stepchildren, Dessie Scarbough, Larry Scarbough, Jr. and Christopher Scarbough.

He is survived by: his wife Lily Bell Stockton; his children, Frances Stockton, Robert Stockton, Josephine Rhyne (Willie), Airlean Perrin, Annie McDaniel, Roosevelt Stockton, Jr., Loretta Rankin (Wesley) and Franklin Stockton (Titania); and his stepchildren, Kathy Long (Lafayette), Lois Scarbough and Sylvester Scarbough. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 55 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
