She was predeceased by: her parents, Charlie McDowell and Elizabeth Herring McDowell; her husband James A. Peterson Sr.; and her siblings, Pauline Peterson, Lillie M. Austin, Pearl Autry and Charlie McDowell.
She is survived by: her children, Carolyn Peterson of Long Beach, CA, Sarah Woods of Stedman, Betty Peterson of Stedman, Mary Ellen Matiukas (David) of Raleigh, NC, James A. Peterson Jr (Barbara) of Garland, NC and Jamal Johnson of Fayetteville, NC; her siblings, Bert Nichols (Willie Mae) of Bayside, NY and Marie Anderson (Allen) of Elizabethtown, NC; her grandchildren, Robert E. Woods, Jr., Jacinda Corbett (Jeremy), Jeremy Boykin, Monique Boykin, Frederick Hayes, Ashleigh Matiukas, Clayton Matiukas and Reed Matiukas; and her great grandchild Aubrey Noelle Corbett. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
