He was predeceased by: his father John; his former wife Shirley Payne; his wife Connie Payne; his sister Phyllis Ann Payne; and his nephew David Payne.
He is survived by: his daughter Barbara Jean Hartle of Rockwell; his stepchildren, Tara Stanley (Eric) of Enochville, Karen Templeton of Gold Hill and David Huneycutt (Lisa Bridges) of Enochville; his grandchildren, Samantha Morton (Ronnie), Sabrina Templeton, Katelyn Stanley, Nicole Huneycutt, Brandon Templeton, Bryan Templeton (Alissa Walker) and Nicholas Brock; and his close friends, Jim, Joy Brady, Ann and Steve Furr.
