He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Burder and Deedie Phillips Shope; and his siblings, Zetta Jones, Mexie Jenkins, Rena Dale, JoAnn Crisp, Zeb, Thad, Ted and John Shope.
He is survived by: his wife Deloris Moody Shope; his son Joe Shope; and his sisters, Wanda Brooks of Robbinsville, NC and Naomi Rogers of Alabama. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
