It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elaine Abernathy Whitby of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, born in Halifax, North Carolina, who passed away on October 19, 2022, at the age of 73, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Bennie Abernathy and Mildred Davis Abernathy; her husband Joseph Green Whitby; and her siblings, Ronald Lee Abernathy, Nancy Finch and Dale Abernathy.
She is survived by: her daughters, Lesha Whitby Jordan (Gene Jordan, Jr) and Crystal Whitby Bennett (Christopher Bennett); her grandchildren, Ashton Victoria Jordan, Jessica Danielle Jordan and Mason Hunter Green Jordan; her great grandchildren, Kingslee Dickens, Layla Ford and Jessalyn Elaine Jordan; her siblings, Donald, Ricky Abernathy, Joan Todd, Judy Myrick and Rose Abernathy; and her close friends, Cllifton Riggan, Vivian Hurst, Walter, Betty Watts and David Jackson. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
