He was predeceased by: his father Gordon; his wife Geraldine Pruitt Garrell; and his siblings, Shirley Spain and Gordon Ray Garrell. He is survived by: his children, Richard L. Garrell, Jr. and Jennifer G. Somers of Wilmington, NC; his grandchildren, Jacob Somers, Kaitlin Somers and Lillie Somers; his sister Nancy Brammer (Bill) of Emerald Isle; and his niece Beverly Cayton of Durham.
