He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Hughes and Mildred Roberts Ellis; his son Daniel J. Ellis; and his siblings, Carolyn E. Manley, Jeanette E. Yates, Rebecca E. Gammons, Geraline E. Walker and Wayne Ellis.
He is survived by: his children, Kenneth Ellis of Reidsville, Michael Ellis of Reidsville and Lisa Ellis of Lawsonville, NC; and his siblings, Leon Ellis (Pat) of Madison, Jerry Ellis of Reidsville, Randy Ellis of Reidsville, Linda Webster of Reidsville and Sandra Sanchez of Stoneville. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
