He is survived by: his uncle Jim; his aunt Mary Elizabeth Phelps; his wife Rutha Grissett Phelps; his sons, Kevin Phelps of Lake Waccamaw, NC and James "Jimmy" Phelps; his sisters, Lillian Batson of Monroe, NC and Flossie Clemmons; his niece Frances Phelps Ward; and also Declan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his canine companion.
