She was predeceased by: her parents, D. P. Whitley and Emma Hinson Whitley; her son Nelson Smith; and her brother John D. Whitley. She is survived by: her husband Curtis H. Smith; her children, Joey Smith (Kathy), Jana Gwyn (Hunt) and Jera Norwood (Chris); her grandchildren, Jennifer Eudy, Jessica Blackburn (Brian), Justin Eudy, Mallory Smith, Abby Smith and Laven Norwood; her great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Dillon, Allie and Emily; and her sister-in-law Maxzelle Whitley. She is also survived by her grandchildren - supporting both children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or Atrium Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
