He was predeceased by: his parents, Samp Whitley and Lela Barbee Whitley; and his sister Judy Whitley Boles. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Smith Whitley; his children, Chris Whitley (Veronica) and Amy Whitley; his grandchildren, Baron Whitley and Hannah Triplett (Aaron); his sister Dot Alsobrooks (Chip) of Oakboro; his niece Wendi Miller (Brent); and his great-nephew Isaiah.
