He was predeceased by: his parents, William Byrd and Hallie Settle Byrd; his wife Opal Nickelson Byrd; his brothers, Jack Jones Byrd and James William Byrd; his stepfather David Wooten; and his great grandchildren, Mason Camden Roten and Remi Nicole Roten.
He is survived by: his daughters, JoAnn Byrd Norman (Douglas) of North Wilkesboro and Teresa Byrd Roten (Stewart) of Elkin; his grandsons, Stewart Andrew Roten (Heather) of Elkin, Nathaniel Paul Roten of Elkin and Alexander Byrd Roten (Marena) of State Road; his great grandchild Stewart Bentley Roten of Elkin; and his sister Brenda Billings (Steve) of Traphill.
