He was predeceased by: his parents, Estel Rhoades and Maie Barlow Rhoades; and his brothers, Jim Rhoades, Bradley Rhoades, Don Rhoades and Bill Rhoades.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Rhoades; his children, Diana Parrish of High Point, NC, Toni Stover (Rick) of Mocksville, NC, Jeffrey Shumate of North Wilkesboro, NC and Melissa Walden (Gabe) of Archdale, NC; his grandchildren, Dustin Sloop (Katie) of High Point, NC, Caleb Shumate (Erin) of Hays, Emma Shumate (Aaron Church) of North Wilkesboro, NC, Jeremy Shumate (McKinley) of North Wilkesboro, NC and Christopher Shumate of North Wilkesboro, NC; and his sister Marie Mann of Hays. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
