He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Walter and Sallie Benton Shew; his daughter Rebecca "Becky" Shew; his grandson James Randall Shew; and his brother Richard "Ricky" Dean Shew.
He is survived by: his daughter Melissa Johnson (Terry) of Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Kaylee Johnson of Wilkesboro, Samantha Johnson (Nathan) of North Wilkesboro, Brian Johnson (Alisha) of Wilkesboro and Christy Robertson of North Wilkesboro; his great grandchildren, Seth Tharpe, Luke Tharpe, Kierstin Johnson, Kasey Johnson, Mattie Johnson, Tyler Johnson and Ethan Lee; and his siblings, Susie Mastin of Wilkesboro, Betty "Lou" Combs of North Wilkesboro, Tom Shew, Sr. (Sue) of North Wilkesboro, Brenda Combs of North Wilkesboro, Barbara Hollar (Danny) of North Wilkesboro, Warner Shew of Scottville, William Shew (Mary) of North Wilkesboro, Robert Shew, Sr. of North Wilkesboro and Sandy Shew of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
