He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Wesley and Alice Christine Porter Spicer; and his brothers, Ted Lee Porter, Joe Wesley Spicer, Jr., Justin Earl Spicer and Jeffrey Dale Spicer.

He is survived by: his siblings, Jerry Spicer of North Wilkesboro, James Spicer of Thomasville, Johnny Ray Spicer of North Wilkesboro, Linda Sue Rash of North Wilkesboro and Brenda Kay Thompson (Jerry) of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
