He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Woodley Combs and Lura Victoria Gregory Combs; and his siblings, Virgil C. "Buddy" Combs, Eugene Combs, Carl Combs, Grace Johnson, Mildred Brooks, Irene Combs and Carol Ann Brewer.
He is survived by: his girlfriend Viola Lane; his children, Leslie Garland of Boone and Russell Combs of Wilkesboro; his stepsons, Larry Pardue of Wilkesboro and Gary Pardue of North Wilkesboro; his siblings, Berchie Atwood of Morganton, Mary Brown of Lenoir, Fred Combs of Hays, Dale Combs of Hays and Lester Combs of Summerfield; his grandchildren, Brittney Matheson, Josh Matheson (Taylor) and Lacie Minton; and his great grandchildren, Brandon and Alissa Fritts.
