He was predeceased by: his children, Renee Bennhausen and Garry Bennhausen; his wife Inga Bennhausen; and his brother Walter Bennhausen. He is survived by: his niece Debra; and his nephew Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reality Ministries, the Durham ARC and Duke Hospice.
