He was predeceased by: his parents, George Ernest and Bessie Edward Phelps Hayes; and his siblings, Maxine H. Brock, Philmore Hayes, Walton Hayes, Russell Hayes, Raeford Hayes and R. T. Hayes, Sr..
He is survived by: his wife Pamela Jean Ball Hayes; his daughter Jean; his son-in-law Chuck Odom; his grandchildren, Sabrina Odom and Levi Odom; and his brothers, Esso, Exxon and Muffler Shop. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
