He was predeceased by: his parents, Norwood L. Patterson, Sr. and Eleene Dula Patterson; his brothers, Aaron Patterson and David Patterson; and his son Jacob Patterson.
He is survived by: his wife Cecelia "Penny" Moore Patterson; his children, Norwood L. Patterson, III (Aurora) of Warner Robbins, David Patterson (Barbara) of Lenoir, Jerron Brown of Morganton and Jeanine Patterson of Lenoir; and his siblings, Samuel Patterson (Freda) of Lenoir, Bruce Patterson (Alicia) of Washington, D. C. and Fran Witherspoon of Lenoir. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
