He was predeceased by: his former wife Venita Ruth Barrow; his father Ivey Hines; and his stepfather David Ingles. He is survived by: his wife Betty; his son Gary Steven Hines, Jr.; his daughter-in-law Lauren G. Hines; his granddaughters, Caroline of Orlando and Emily Hines of Orlando; his mother Melba Ingles; his siblings, Jackie Seymour, Connie Ferguson and Alan Hines; and his stepchildren, Yogi and Celia Barwick.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations be made to the CSS Neuse II Foundation, PO Box 251, Kinston, NC 28502-0251.
