He was predeceased by: his mother Gladys; and his siblings, David Smart, Larry Smart, Nancy Wilcox, Phyllis Hutchins and Patsy Michael.
He is survived by: his children, Steve Smart (Carla) of Wilson and Susan Wingate of Winterville; his sisters, Dorothy Hays of Shreveport, LA and Sharon Wells of Angola, IN.; his grandchildren, Kyle Smart (Danielle) of Charlotte, Daniel Smart of Greenville, Meredith Smart Gubernard (John) of Greenville, Will Stafford (Paige) of Winterville and Laura Stafford Stroud (Coty) of Kinston; his great grandchildren, Austen, Brayden Smart, Ada Stroud and Ivy Stafford; his close friend Mary Chandler of Washington, NC.; and his caregiver Diane Bell.
