He is survived by: his wife Sue Wilson Smith; his son Michael Smith (Wendy); his granddaughter Zoe Smith; his brother J. C. Smith (Lois) of Raleigh; and his nieces, Brenda Roper (Jerry) of Hudson and Beryl Westby (Steve) of Hickory.
