He was predeceased by: his parents, Plez Franklin and Lonnia Winkler Smith; his children, Jearl Henry Smith Jr. and Lori Ann Smith; and his siblings, Plez "Butch" Smith, Minnie Bell Bowman, Lovie Reid and Dimple Haas.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Jean Smith; his sons, Jimmy Smith of Granite Falls and Richard Smith (Deborah) of Granite Falls; and his grandchildren, Christopher Smith (Jackie) of Granite Falls, Amanda Smith of Granite Falls, Courtney Miles (Michael) of Lenoir and Allison Smith of Granite Falls.
