He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Schirle Stewart; and his father Tommy Stewart. He is survived by: his son Jeffrey Stewart (Natalie Davis) of Princeton, NC; and his grandchildren, Jameson Stewart and Elliott.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkwood Elementary School, 2900 Northwoods Drive, Jacksonville, NC 24540.
