It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ann Armitage Hamner of Hillsborough, North Carolina, born in Lynchburg, Virginia, who passed away on November 19, 2022, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her stepson Dylan Conrad Talbot; and her sister-in-law Julie Calver Hamner. She is survived by: her pet House Farm; her close friend Reed; her daughter Frances Langhorne Houck of Durham; her significant other Reed Harmon Carpenter; her brother Randolph Marshall Hamner of Hillsborough; her granddaughters, Margaret Marshall Fairey and Annie George Fairey of Durham; her nephew Christopher Hamner (Virginia) of Arlington; her niece Eliza Hamner-Koenig of Washington, DC; and her friend Elizabeth Gray Gregory (Splash) of Efland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a more fitting tribute is to show up in your own community as Ann did so tirelessly in hers—seeking always to befriend and support the next person you meet. Monetary donations in Ann's name may be made to Carolina Friends School in Durham.
