He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hardy, Sr. and Athalene Heck Edwards; and his sister Edigna Ratliff. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Edwards; his sons, Dan Steven Edwards and John Mark Edwards (Margaret Edwards); his grandchildren, Sara Margaret Moore (Will) and Luke Mark Edwards (Sydney); and his great grandchildren, Griffin, Coleman, Calhoun Edwards and Lawton Moore.
