He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Edwin Hardy and Marjorie Katherine Allen; his son Ira May "Skipper" Hardy, III; his former wife Mary Ruth Starling Hardy; his sister Mary Trim; and his brothers-in-law, Henry Shaw and Tim Hopkins.
He is survived by: his son Edwin Mitchell "Sandy" Hardy; his grandson Ira May "Jesse" Hardy, IV of Bath, NC; his daughter Anne Robbins "Robin" Hardy of Chapel Hill, NC; his sisters, Anne Hardy Hopkins of Idaho Falls, ID, Martha Hardy George of Greenville, NC and Edwina Hardy Shaw of Raleigh, NC; his brother-in-law Hal Venable Worth III; and his stepchildren, Mary Ruth Cooke Faulkner (Renny) of Charlotte, NC, Caroline Cooke Atkinson (Hank) of Charlotte, NC and Robert Cameron Cooke (Marnie) of Denver, CO. He is also survived by Numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
