He was predeceased by: his wife Carol Peele Bender; and his parents, James R. Bender, Sr. and Julia Ann Winstead Bender. He is survived by: his son Richie Bender of Maryland; his sisters, Connie Hopper (Mike) and Cynthia Tucker (Jerry) of Goldsboro; and his nephews, Chris Hopper (Jamie) and Chris Griffin (Ashley).
