He was predeceased by: his parents, William "Buck" Alexander and Helon Wilkerson Kirkland; and his brother-in-law Bob Carter. He is survived by: his wife Ann Carter Kirkland; his daughter Elizabeth Kirkland Sickles (Robert); his grandchildren, Alexandra, Kari (Phillip Bader), Michael Sickles, Coley, Mimi and Kate Kirkland; his cousins, Linda Nelson Davis, Susan Nelson Dox (Allan) and Cathy Nelson Raddatz; his siblings-in-law, Bill Carter (Jo Lene) and Cindy Carter; and his niece Jo Carter (James Dees).
