He was predeceased by: his sisters, Margaret Brooks, Helen Hager, Ruth Fraley, Elizabeth Abernathy, Sue Medlin, Faye Pope, Marie Abernathy and Pauline Abernathy.
He is survived by: his siblings, Pansy Jonas, Martha Owenby, Frank Abernathy and Wayne Abernathy; his brothers-in-law, Bob Hager and Floyd "Bud" Jonas Guardian; and his children, Jeremy Chaffin, Zak McCrary and Tim Beal. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Friendly Chapel Baptist Church.
