He was predeceased by: his parents, James Thompson and Margie Carter Thompson. He is survived by: his children, Charlotte Thompson Bass (Robert) and Lee Vander Thompson Jr. (Rebecca). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Vander's memory to The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100.
