He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Hilliard and Nancy McNeal Hilliard; his son David William Hilliard; his grandson Christopher Gay; and his son-in-law James "Jim" England.
He is survived by: his wife Betty P. Hilliard; his children, Nancy England of Gastonia, Sharon Whitener (Chris) of Crouse and Mark Hilliard (Cynthia) of Apex, NC; and his grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew Gay, Brittany Hilliard, Joseph and Sarah Mignogna.
