He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Hershel McSwain and Mary Sue Brittain McSwain; his wife Faye Childers McSwain; and his daughter Robin Smith. He is survived by: his children, Donna Carpenter (Dwayne) and Doyle McSwain (Kelly); his son-in-law Tom Smith of Shelby; and his siblings, Linda Mosteller (Miller) of Lincolnton, Carolyn Noel of Lincolnton, Patti Engle (Tom) of Lincolnton, Sherrill McSwain (Peggy) of Crouse and Hank McSwain (Donna) of Lincolnton. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
