She was predeceased by: her parents, Oscar Earl Pope and Marie Miller Pope; her husband Gary Cartee, Sr.; and her son Gary Cartee, Jr.. She is survived by: her granddaughter Deanna Cartee Smith (Brian L. Smith); her great grandchildren, Lily Claire and Carter Smith of Mooresville, NC.; and her brother O. Earl Pope of Hawley, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Betty P. Cartee's name to VIA Health Partners Hospice, 7845 Little Ave, Charlotte, NC 28226.

“As life-long friends since the age of 5, Betty and I met at dance school. Both of us growing up in the Elizabeth section, we went to school together and became good friends. Throughout the last 87 years, we shared many good times and went on many fun trips. We loved the beach and shared a wonderful trip to California. We shared the happy times and the hard times. She will be sorely missed. Betty's greatest blessing was Deanna, who took extraordinary care of her. Deanna, Brian, Lily Claire, and Carter were the Joy of her life! I pray Betty rest in Peace!”
