He was predeceased by: his parents, Annie Leigh Eakes Critcher and Walter Meadows Critcher; his wife Blanche Cheatham Critcher; and his siblings, Annie Doris Critcher, Walter Meadows Critcher, Jr., Robert Macon Critcher and Dan Calvin Critcher.

He is survived by: his children, James E. Critcher, Jr. and Linda Critcher Kindell (Tad Kindell); his grandchildren, Elizabeth Baker Pegg (John Steven Pegg), James E. Critcher III, Dean Allen Critcher and Kameron Leigh Critcher; his great grandchildren, Jack Henry Pegg and Lily Harper Pegg; and his brother Howard Taylor Critcher (Joyce).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Enon Baptist Church, 2298 Enon Rd, Oxford, NC 27565.
