She is survived by: her husband Phil Smathers of Canton; her children, Jennifer Griffith (Brandon), Donnie Smathers (Kendra), Stephanie Smathers of Charleston, SC and Kevin Smathers (Jency); her grandchildren, Paige Griffith, Will, Kole Smathers, Alyssa, Noah Johnson, Austin and Ava Smathers; her niece Kim Kappler (Mike); and her brother-in-law Dennis Murphy of Colorado.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Smathers' memory to Canton First Methodist Church, 29 Newfound Street, Canton, NC 28716.
