He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert B. Chappell and Dallie Stansell Chappell; his wife Margaret Long Chappell; his siblings, Lois Bones, Merle Grigsby, Leland, Jay, Clinton, Buren, Craig and Gerald Chappell; and his granddaughters, Lauren Chappell and Angel Ruggieri.

He is survived by: his children, Neisha Ruggieri (Frank) of Dacula, GA, Sheila Ashford (Blane) of Greensboro, GA and Tony Chappell (Lisa) of Pisgah Forest, NC; his sisters, Margaret McCollum of Easley, SC, Georgia Garrett (George) of Easley, SC, Joyce Middleton (Richard) of Jacksonville, FL and Geraldine Anthony of Easley, SC; his granddaughters, Ansley Chappell (Kurt Reise) of Brevard, NC, Alexa Clayton (Will) of Greenville, SC, Tristan Chappell of Brevard, NC, Nicole Ruggieri of Atlanta, GA and Sophia Ruggieri of Dacula, GA; and his great grandchildren, Liam Clayton, Ronin Hartman and Dallie Reise.
