He was predeceased by: his parents, Martha Brakefield Scales and Arney Sides; his stepfather John Scales; and his sister Susan Scales. He is survived by: his children, William Jonathan Sides and Anna Christine Sides; his granddaughter Emma Catherine Sides; and his sisters, Joan Brakefield and Margaret Simpson (Johnny). He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
