He is survived by: his wife Mary Agnes Hall Knowles; his children, Catherine Knowles Leach (Bill) of Virginia, Mary Kim Esswein (Chuck) and James Robert Knowles (Julie); his grandchildren, Hannah, Christopher, Matthew, Bobby, Charles, Paul and Shane; and his great grandchildren, Josephine, Laney, Emmalyn, Jake, Willow, Allison and Rhett. He is also survived by twelve nephews and ten nieces.
