He was predeceased by: his parents, Oland Vestal Matthews and Mary Madeline Cheek Matthews; his wife Shirley; and his siblings, Ruth Matthews, Charlotte Spinks and Avohn Matthews.
He is survived by: his son Leroy Ellison (Jonita) of Asheboro; his siblings, Sadie Roper (Charles), Fern Pullen, Samuel Matthews and Lonnie Wayne Matthews (Zula); and his grandchildren, Tyree, Jemel and Tanaesha Ellison. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other family members, and extended family and friends.
