He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Johnson and Alma Johnson; his wife Janie Fries; his daughter Doreen Olson; his siblings, Ruth Sontag, Lyle, Eunice, Hallard, Kenneth, Geraldine Dube and Eldon; his sons-in-law, Tim Zander and K. C. Romans; his grandsons, Tom Romans and Brian Day; and his brothers-in-law, Jerrold Fries and Bruce Oakes.
He is survived by: his daughters, Debra Day (Phil) and Barbara Romans; his grandchildren, Nicole Zander (Aaron), Stephanie Olson, Kevin, Jonathan, Andrew Romans and Greg Day (Kaye); and his sister-in-law Daisy Ruhland (Bob). He is also survived by great-grandchildren.
