He was predeceased by: his parents, Anthony V. Gies and Jean E. Gies (Martinson); his brothers, Karl Gies (Lynn) and Jack Gies (Denise); his son Paul S. Gies; and the mother of his children Barbara Simpson Gies.
He is survived by: his close friends, Neil Hamilton, Joe Delaney and Montana; his wife Marla A. Martin; his children, Jennifer Tilzey (Tom) and Jay Martin (Eri); his sister Toni Gies; his grandchildren, Taylor Grady (Trevor), Vanessa Tilzey, Jonathan Gies, Dakota Glidewll, Octavian Martin and Leisetta Martin; and his great grandchild Dana Tilzey-Peace. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Lewistown Boys and Girls Club, the Boy Scouts of America, or the elevator project at St. Leo's Church.
