He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Carter and Bettye Rae Carter; his wife Ruth Carter; and his brother-in-law Larry Smith. He is survived by: his grandsons, Drew Carter and Reed Carter; his nephews, Stacy Stevens and Shane Carter; his sons, James Douglas, Don Burgess (Penny), Chris Patrick (Michelle) and Doug Carter (Wendy); his grandchildren, Josh Carter, Ben Carter, Anna Grace and Leah Kathryn Carter; and his siblings, Patty Smith and Johnny Carter (Jewel) of Pelahatchie. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and even great-great-nieces and nephews.
