He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira Phillips and Mantha Phillips; his son Mark Phillips; his great grandchild Taylor Sullivan; and his brothers, Bennie Phillips and James Phillips.

He is survived by: his son Dwight Phillips (Judy); and his siblings, Joyce Walters, R. C. Phillips (Karen), David Phillips (Joann) and Bobby Phillips. He is also survived by four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
