With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Raymond Tynes of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, who passed away on June 20, 2022 at the age of 71. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Brother Warren Tynes and Loretta McCarty Tynes; his siblings, Tommy Tynes and Yvonne Tynes; and his nephew Sam Tynes.

He is survived by: his brothers, John Tynes and Bill Tynes (Rose); his nephews, Caleb Tynes and Gabriel Tynes; and his niece Sunshine Tynes. He is also survived by extended family, friends, and neighbors.

“James and I attended a few poetry classes together at UT Austin. He was working on an English degree, I on Humanities. Later he lived with my wife and I in Austin, Texas, for a couple of years. He wrote columns for The Good Life magazine that we published and was a great conversationalist. I'm sorry to learn of his passing at this late date and I miss him terribly. We didn't talk much in later years but when we did we could always pick it up again without missing a beat. Rest in Peace, James.”
