He was predeceased by: his wife Debra Hinton Burge; his daughter Pamela Avelle Burge; his parents, J. M. Burge and Hazel Burge; and his sisters, Gloria Faye McMahon and Lane Stuart.

He is survived by: his son Richard Burge; and his siblings, Montez Hartfield, Rosemary Farlow, Jackie O'Gwynn, James Robert "Bob" Burge, Aubrey Burge, Kinard Burge and Jesse Burge.
