He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Van and Ouida Roberts; his stepfather Bill Roberts; his brothers, Frank Van, Marion Van and Leo Roberts; and the mother of his children Patsy Carter Van.

He is survived by: his children, India Dunaway (Tim) and Blake Vann (Sandy); and his grandchildren, Amber Miller (Garrick), Hunter Dunaway (Morgan), Sarah Viniard (Chad), Colin Vann, Bradley Newcomber (Chelsea), Shawn Cullins and Shannon Cullins. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
